One of my most frequently asked questions is how bloggers make money. While this might vary by blog and niche, for me, the largest part of my income comes from sponsored posts.
If you aren’t familiar with a sponsored post, it’s when you promote a product or company and get paid for doing a review or mentioning the product or company. It’s important to note that when deciding whether or not to take a sponsored post, you want to make sure it is in line with your brand and what your audience might be interested in.
Now, let’s talk about how to get your first sponsored post!
Make sure your blog is presentable
Before you even think about talking to brands about a sponsored post, you want to make sure your site is going to not only meet but exceed expectations. If your blog is too difficult to navigate, is unorganized, and lacks professionalism, you will be hard-pressed to find a brand willing to work with you.
This means you need to make sure your blog looks presentable before you start reaching out to brands. Take some time to make sure your website is up to par, and clean up your site to make it look more professional.
Build your following
Brands won’t be wowed by numbers unless those are engaged followers. Brands are not only interested in your site, but also how many people will see their post. They want to know who their target audience is and who potential customers are.
This is something you should be doing too! You want to grow your following and build a community of engaged readers before you start applying for sponsored posts.
Let sponsors know they can contact you
Once you have your blog cleaned up and your following built, it’s time to start reaching out to sponsors! You will want to create a media kit, create advertising or work with me section on your blog, and even consider joining sponsorship groups and sites.
You want to make sure brands know that you would be interested in working with them and that they can access all the information regarding your stats easily.
Pitch yourself to sponsors
If you are impatient or looking for sponsors quickly, then it might pay to reach out to them first! There are so many different places and platforms you can use to pitch yourself to sponsors. There are a plethora of sponsorship sites out there such as FameBit that can help you get connected with brands.
Do a little research to find out what brands would be a good fit for your blog, and consider reaching out to them directly. Sponsors can also be found at conferences in your niche as well, so it might be worth your time to look into a few of these to put yourself in front of a potential sponsor.
For many bloggers sponsored posts allow them to make extra money or even a full-time income. What are you waiting for? Get out there and start applying for sponsored posts now!
